Making reservations

All set to book already? You're good at this! With our new journey planner, making a reservation is as simple as:

1. From our journey planner, first select your departure and arrival city from the drop down menu. Choose either one way or round trip and enter your desired travel dates.
2. Next, enter the number of passengers traveling. Please note that all customers traveling under the same reservation number must board the bus together. Reservations are required for all passengers regardless of age.
• Passengers wishing to travel with more than the allotted luggage (See terms and conditions) must purchase additional reservation(s) to accommodate extra luggage.
3. Customers with disabilities must select YES on "assisted travel" if there are any passengers traveling with special requirements.
4. Choose your preferred travel times from the schedules provided. Detailed information regarding your trip and the bus stops can be accessed by clicking on the trip/bus stop links.
Please note: When selecting trips that depart after midnight you are required to select the actual date you want to travel, remembering that the date changes at midnight.
5. Choose from available reserved seat options for your trip and click continue.
6. In order to avoid unnecessary charges to your account please review the purchases in your basket and remove any trips added in error before checking out.
7. Review and agree to the terms and conditions.
8. Click pay, and check out using our secure online payment processor, WorldPay.
9. When your reservation has been completed we will issue you an e-mail from WorldPay confirming the acceptance of your payment, and a reservation confirmation e-mail.

It is your responsibility to check that the reservation confirmation issued to you is accurate. We are only responsible for issuing the reservation confirmation in line with your request made on this website. Please bring your reservation number with you to board the bus.
This is an example of what a Megabus reservation number looks like:

Looking to buy a Megabus ticket for someone else? Look how selfless you are!

Buying a ticket for someone else is simple.

First, make your ticket selection on Megabus.

Then, during the check out process, you're able to to enter the passenger's email address so that they receive the confirmation email with the trip details.

Alternatively, you could enter your own email and send over the confirmation details to the passenger.

At time of boarding, have the passenger bring either:

  • a printed copy of their reservation confirmation email or,
  • the reservation number written on a separate piece of paper, or
  • their reservation number shown on their phone.

Please keep in mind that passengers under the age of 17 are not permitted to travel on the bus without a parent/guardian that is over the age of 17.

While photo identification is not required to board the bus, we recommend that travelers be prepared to produce a photo ID with proof of age to avoid being refused from traveling on our buses due to being underage.

Don’t checkout as a guest, you mean so much more to us! Plus, we don’t want to have to guess where to send your trip details.

Yes. When you make an account with Megabus, you can securely store up to 5 credit cards for faster purchases.

When making a purchase, you can save your credit card information to your account by selecting the check box "Save this payment card now to make your next bookings quicker and easier."

In your account settings, displayed next to each payment method, there is an option to "remove."

Simply click "remove" and you will be presented with a confirmation message to remove the payment method.

When adding a new payment method, you can set it to be your primary or default payment method by selecting the check box "Set as primary payment card."

Reservations can be made for trips at least 45 days in advance of departure. Due to operational constraints Megabus may choose to change this period.

Instant teleportation unfortunately is not yet a reality, so there will be occasional complications when looking for a specific route.

This may happen for a couple of reasons. If your travel cities appear, but the calendar dates are grayed out, it may be that the dates you have chosen are too far in advance and are not opened for sale. Check back at a later date to see if the dates are then available.

The message "no journeys have been found for the date selected" will appear if all trips have sold out on a particular date.

Make your reservations early to avoid disappointment.

All prices are shown in USD. Megabus one-way fares start as low as $1.00, but the availability of $1.00 fares may be limited. Fares will vary by day and time of travel, time of booking, and demand for seats.

Most fares are sold at levels in excess of $1.00. Fares are subject to change without notice. Once a reservation is purchased at a specific fare, the fare is not subject to adjustment.

A $3.99 reservation fee is charged for all reservations. For trade-ins to existing reservations a $3.00 trade in fee and a $3.99 new reservation fee will apply.

Any trade-in to your reservation may result in a fare increase. In general, Megabus will offer its best prices to those who make reservations early. Please note that due to the high sales volumes on our website, prices may fluctuate between searches.

Reservations made by telephone will be charged at the same rate as those made on the internet but will be charged a $7.00 reservation fee.

Customers under the age of 17 must be accompanied by an adult (17 years or older). If you can pass for 17 (or it’s close), please have your I.D. ready so we can verify your age and ask for your beauty secrets. Unaccompanied minors under the age of 17 are not permitted to travel on Megabus.

We recommend that young adults be prepared to produce a photo ID with proof of age to avoid being refused from traveling on our buses.

You are able to add multiple trips to your basket by using our journey planner for each trip you wish to purchase. Simply browse back to the journey planner, and choose any additional trips to add to your basket before selecting "pay".

You sure can. Megabus is accessible from any smart phone or other mobile device.

Please check your email inbox for the Wordpay confirmation email and megabus reservation confirmation email. If you have received both of these then your transaction was successful. If not, please check to see if the information we sent to you is in your junk mail/spam folders.

If you only receive a Worldpay confirmation e-mail, and not a reservation confirmation please contact us at 877-462-6342.

If you do not receive either e-mail within an hour of purchase please contact us at 877-462-6342.

After completing your payment, a confirmation page will display your Megabus reservation numbers. Please print this page as a record of your transaction. It is your responsibility to check that the confirmation issued to you is accurate. We are only responsible for issuing the confirmation in line with your request made on this website. Megabus will also send you an e-mail or text message using the information provided at the time of booking in case you don't have access to a printer while making your reservations.

In order to board the bus you must present your reservation number provided in the confirmation page. You are required to arrive at the pickup location 15 minutes prior to your departure time.

We don’t expect you to speak in code. Our bus drivers can translate your reservation number for you.

Your reservation number will be a combination of numbers and letters and can be obtained from the confirmation page displayed after finalizing your Megabus purchase.

A copy of your reservation information is also sent to the e-mail address provided at the time of booking. Reservations are only valid on the trip(s) date, time, origin and destination as stated on the reservation.

Once completed, Megabus reservations cannot be canceled or refunded, but they can be traded in for another journey up to 3 hours before your original scheduled departure.

Megabus is not responsible for delays or cancellations caused by traffic, road conditions, weather or other causes over which it has no control.

Alternatively where Megabus fails to provide on time-reliable service for reasons wholly within our control refunds, or alternative travel arrangements, may be offered.

Megabus will send an e-mail or text message using the information provided at the time of booking regarding any changes to your service.

This may include stop changes, schedule changes, canceled services and weather advisories. This information is also posted on the service advisories section.

From 0-150, people of all ages are required a ticket to travel with Megabus, children and babies included.

Booster/car seats are recommended, but only for children under the age of 5. You’d look pretty silly sitting in your own booster seat.

We appreciate a good haggle like anyone else, but for now, we only accept payments using major credit cards.

All Megabus prices are shown in USD. Payment for reservations can be made using major credit cards, including Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. Unfortunately Megabus reservations cannot be paid for in cash or by check.

Please note that some credit card issuers and banks may charge for transactions made outside your geographical area (international transaction fee).

These fees are charged by your card issuer/bank and not Megabus. Please check with your card issuer if you are unsure as Megabus cannot be held liable for any such charges.

Once you have selected your trip(s) you will be taken to the Worldpay page to pay for your reservation.

Enter the necessary details and make your payment. WorldPay is our trusted and secure online payment processor. In an age where protecting online credit card information is so critical, we have made a strategic decision to team up with WorldPay.

Please be aware that Megabus does not hold any credit card information on file. Each purchase will require re-entering your payment information.

So you want to take more than one Megabus bus? Look at you, Mr. or Ms. Traveler. We can take you across so many states that you’ll run out of phone camera storage. But there a few things you should know first.

If you are building your own trip from city to city then all it takes is a bit of careful planning. You can take a trip from, say, Toronto to San Antonio, but you’d have to change buses a few times to get there, so bring your toothbrush, some food, and a good book or movie (how long has it been since you’ve seen every Rocky movie?)

Connecting trip tips

  • Make sure you leave at least two hours between a scheduled arrival and the next departure. Sometimes there’s heavy traffic or inclement weather and we don’t want you to miss your connecting bus
  • Plan your potential layovers, which can be lengthy depending on bus schedules, and be ready to chat to lots of fellow travelers along the way (they’ll appreciate the fact you brought your toothbrush too!)

Stay up-to-date on weather related cancellations and be informed on all Megabus news, contests, and announcements by following us on Facebook or Twitter/Instagram @megabus.

In addition, under the “change trip” section of the website, you can enter your reservation number to view potential route cancellations.

We also post updates on our service advisories page.
