(September 4, 2013) – Megabus.com, the popular city-to-city, express bus company with fares from $1, announced today it will begin daily service to/from Baton Rouge, La. Service begins September 9 and tickets can be purchased at www.megabus.com  today.

Baton Rouge residents will soon be able to travel direct to Houston and New Orleans from the megabus.com arrival/departure location at 224 Florida Street, between 3rd Street and Lafayette Street. There will be three daily direct routes to/from Baton Rouge, with customers able to travel to/from Houston in less than five hours, and to/from New Orleans in less than two hours.

“Because of increased demand in the South, we’re excited to announce express service to/from Baton Rouge,” said Mike Alvich, megabus.com’s Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations. “This new expansion provides a link for the many Baton Rouge residents to connect to friends, family and events in two major destinations to the east and west and connections to other parts of the country.”

“With gas prices continually rising, Baton Rouge residents are looking for ways to stretch their dollars even further,” added Alvich. “The cost of travel shouldn’t be a barrier to visiting the people and places that matter most.”

Fares start as low as $1 every day and increase gradually as the traveling date gets closer. Customers are encouraged to book early to secure $1 fares. “The $1 fares go quickly, but there are many other great fares available if you book early,” said Alvich. “Traveling on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays is another great way Baton Rouge customers and all travelers can secure the best megabus.com fares.”
“We welcome megabus.com’s express service to the Baton Rouge Area," said Adam Knapp, President and CEO at the Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC). “We recognize a strong demand for transportation options connecting Baton Rouge to New Orleans and beyond, and it is great to see a company with a unique service model moving into this space. We look forward to seeing megabus.com succeed.”

“With the express service to and from Downtown Baton Rouge to Downtown New Orleans and Downtown Houston, megabus.com strengthens the economic connectivity between these great cities of the Gulf Coast corridor,” said Davis Rhorer, Executive Director of the Downtown Development District. “Because of its convenient location for staging at the corner of Florida St and Third St, passengers will be able to easily walk to all of the attractions, businesses, and hotels in Downtown Baton Rouge, as well as catch the First Transit shuttle to LSU and CATS transit services. In addition, we are identifying areas to station taxis for arriving visitors to access other parts of the city."
