Travelers choose express bus service as alternative to high gas prices
Megabus.com, the first intercity, express bus service with fares from $1, announced today that they have served 17 million passengers across North America. The company, which launched in April 2006, has grown rapidly to serve more than 70 cities in North America due in no small part to near-record high gas prices. “Travelers are continuously looking for ways to save money and as gas prices climb at an alarming rate, we’ve continued to be the affordable alternative to driving,” said Dale Moser, president and COO of megabus.com. “We believe the price of traveling shouldn’t keep you from the things you love, and megabus.com is proud to have reinvented the intercity bus industry with our pricing model, free Wi-Fi and power outlets. We are pleased to reach 17 million passengers and thank all our customers for helping us reach this milestone.”Customers choosing megabus.com over driving can see substantial savings. The ticket price for an average 250-mile trip on megabus.com could cost a customer as little as $1.50 one-way compared to $45 for a tank of gas (assuming their car gets 22 MPG at an average of $4 per gallon).“I took four roundtrips between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia and spent only $38.50 total. That’s less than it cost to fill up my tank once,” said customer Rebecca Hromiko of Pittsburgh.Visit www.megabus.com for additional information about the service, schedules and fares.
